I Thought You Were Sleeping
After Measure, we were regarded as a drowsy musical troupe. (We sat when we performed. We had a small, sardonic string section. We were lumped in with a world of mope-rock, of wistful hand-wringers and wannabe whalers.) While I love a proper siesta and silence works wonders for my sanity, I mostly want to rock. Even if it’s just a porch swing, or a chaste roll in the hay. I always want the experience to be intense. So I wrote and recorded I Thought You Were Sleeping — mostly as an attempt to point and laugh at my longtime foe, myself.
